Ramstein-Miesenbach was first mentioned in historical records in the 13th century. Originally a small farming and trading settlement, the town has grown steadily, especially since the construction of Ramstein Air Base in the 1950s. One remarkable story from local history: In the 1980s, a U.S. military aircraft made an emergency landing on the nearby autobahn. It was a bold move that highlighted the region’s ideal location between airfield, highway and military installations.
While the American presence plays a big role today, Ramstein has kept its local identity through cultural traditions, community events and historical landmarks.
